Today we talk with GWSPH associate professor Monica Ruiz about her recent study on the benefits of syringe exchange programs. Over ten years Monica analyzed HIV cases in Philadelphia and Baltimore and found that syringe exchange programs prevented over 12,000 new cases of HIV. Monica shares why these programs need to be implemented nationwide and what we can do to help make that happen. To read more about Monica’s study visit go.gwu.edu/syringeexchange.
